"Wings on fire, tearing into the night
Screaming into the light
Of another day
Carry me out of the hurricane
Into the smoke and flame
And we'll fly again

And we'll rise
Right before their eyes
On wings that fill the sky
Like a phoenix rising..."

-- Annihilator, "Phoenix Rising"

The song that inspired the piece tends to bring to mind Locke, from Final Fantasy VI, and his connection to the Phoenix. So I suppose you could say that this is fanart, as it's based on the Final Fantasy VI Phoenix, though there's nothing specifically tying it in other than the intention and the fact that it's based off the in-game sprite (with color changes; the white and purple body wasn't working). Since the intention was there, I'm shelving this under fanart. I was going to do more with it and make it more specific to the game, but simplicity ended up working the best for the image.

Time: Roughly four hours
Program: Painter 7
Soundtrack: Annihilator, "Phoenix Rising"

So lovely and triumphant. Again, I really like the contrast on the dark, and how fire-like he is.

Thank you! And you should! I'd like to see that. Hmmm. Maybe I need to try drawing a few of the other Espers...though this one was kind of a request.

This is beautiful. The colors and texture are very well done. It makes it look a lot like real media rather than digital.
